Pink Slips

It took me six full hours to clean my kitchen on Saturday. I think it was the biggest mess I have ever cleaned! I started at 10:00 in the morning, and finally collapsed in the bathtub at 5:00, having taken only one break to eat lunch and talk to my sis on the phone. Sarah came over at 6:00 that evening, and we watched The Time Traveler's Wife. It was okay. The plot line was actually pretty engaging, but overall the movie was a little too sad for my taste. Sarah and I still had a great visit though. We rambled on and on for two hours straight before even starting the movie.

The kitchen came out great! It looks very cute and charming, in a "it's clear that we did this all ourselves" sort of way. I love it. I'll post pics as soon as I feel energetic enough to take them.

I'm still in insomniac mode this week. I feel so desperate for sleep. I even DVR'd some show (Dr. Oz?) that I've never watched before, just because according to the commercial, Dr. Oz would be talking about insomnia.

Pink slips went out yesterday. Our school is losing nine teachers. Back when I was hired almost four years ago, there were four other teachers who hired out at the same time as me. Yesterday, all four of them were pink-slipped. And three of them have a single-subject credential, just like me. I can't believe it. My job is officially safe now for the next school year, but I have absolutely no bubble left. My best friend at work, Lauren, was pink-slipped yet again. I don't have a lot of energy to say my feelings about all of this, so I'm just going to say that right now I feel a little sad, and leave it at that.

  1. Poor Lauren! Is she losing her job then? I always get confused on the whole pink slip thing. Thank God you still have your job. I know your principal will do everything possible to keep you.

  2. Being pink-slipped is equivalent to being laid-off. It is the school's way of saying that they are not going to renew your contract for the next school year. But it's not completely hopeless; most pink-slipped teachers eventually get their jobs back. Lauren, for example, was pink-slipped last year, and they did ultimately wind up hiring her back, but not until the second semester of school. It's just hard on those teachers, because they have to figure out how to make ends meet until they get their jobs back. :-(

  3. I bet you're glad to have your kitchen back. Having things torn up can be so unsettling, but I bet it looks great! Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

My heart goes out to you, Jodi. It has to be hard worrying over the pink slips, but also seeing your friends and co-workers getting them. Hang in there.
